Tips on How to Find Your Ideal Nanny

Hola! Welcome back!  I want to continue the journey on finding your ideal nanny.  Hopefully you're in the position to take some time to find a great nanny.  Having a head start before you actually need your nanny could help the process move smoother.

Believe it, or not the first way I recommend families to begin their search is word of mouth.  I know, I know with all this technology why on earth would you do such a thing.  The power of word of mouth still remains one of the strongest leads in searching for a nanny.  Getting the word out to friends, neighbors, schools, or local librarians could be potential sources for you.  Along, with that the next tool that has become very popular the last five, or more years now is online searches sites such as or Nannies4Hire.  These tools are helpful in which you have access to many nanny profiles looking for a family to work for.  Lastly, you could check your local listings for nanny agencies to help facilitate the search for you.  Many agencies will conduct the interviews for you before you meet the potential nanny candidate.

If you plan on searching for your ideal nanny on your own its always good to start with a phone interview.  This would allow you and the potential nanny candidate to decide if a face to face is the next step.  A few example questions would be: How long have you nannied?  What are your references, or experiences?  What do you love about caring for children?  What type of activities would you engage children in?  These are just a few examples, again every family will have different questions to ask.  This is the beginning of the communication process that will help families and nannies enter into a great working relationship!

Next, step would be to check references, and conduct background checks.  (This is totally up to each family and their comfort level.)  Holding a second interview are often common especially if your having a tough time deciding between two candidates.

I hope this helps a little with your search for your ideal nanny.  Please post comments, questions, or topics suggestions in the comment areas.  Gracias!
