RAINY DAY ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN
How is everyone doing? I hope you are enjoying gorgeous weather in your town. Our Spring didn't really show up and I feel like we went straight to Summer where I live. I'm not complaining I will take Summer any day over snow. (Lol). What a long Winter ayyyy yaiii yaiii!! Ok that's in the past moving on lol.
Now we are back in the great outdoors, where I love working with children. It's such a treat and excites me to see how they learn with nature. I tell children all the time my middle name is "summer" and "outdoors" lol. We try to get outside everyday whenever possible. When we have rainy days I keep an activity, or two in my back pocket. Having bored children is "no bueno." Here are a few of my favorite things (in my singing voice) to do on a rainy day!
Remember those nature walks you took? Try to save a few rocks, or twigs for these rainy days. They are the best to paint! Have a nice set of paper of all shapes and sizes on hand too......skies the limit on what children could paint. It's always the process that children love, over the product.
2. CARD GAMES OR BOARD GAMES
Have you played "Would you rather" yet with your kids? What a great way to find out more about each other. You could create your own questions, or go to the internet for kid-friendly questions.
3. CREATE A GROUP STORYBOARD
Everyone contributes to a story by filling in the blanks. For example "Once upon a time a______________" Keep going around adding phrases and words until it reaches an ending. You could video record this, or write the story onto a board.
4. MOVIE TIME TOGETHER
Pop some popcorn lay out the blankets, pillows, and select a movie that everyone would enjoy together. (Warning have extra popcorn ready the selection process could take longer then the movie itself, gotta love decision making time with kids!)
5. CRAFT TIME
I have a new thing now where the children and I go to Pintrest to find craft ideas. You should see us running around the house looking for items for the craft. I feel like the hunt for the items is much more fun then the craft itself. We always find what we need and it ends in such a very enjoyable time together....with music playing in the background of course!
Have you tried any of the ideas above? What are your children's favorite activity? What other suggestions would you add to the list?
Thank you for reading...... feel free to share this post! Have an amazing week creating memories with your children! Shauna
